Police in Mzuzu are keeping in custody a 32 -year -old Ugandan national for allegedly killing unknown man with a vehicle registration number PE 458 in a road accident near Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu City Tuesday night.

Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station Sergeant Martin Bwanali identified the driver as Oloo Collins from Tororo Village in Uganda, who works as an Engineer in Mzuzu City.

“I can confirm that we are keeping a dead body at Mzuzu Central hospital Mortuary who was hit to death by a double cabin Ford vehicle registration number PE 458 on 7 July 2015 around 22hours near Grand Palace Hotel,” said Sergeant Bwanali.

Sergeant Bwanali then called on the community to identify the dead body.
“The dead man had no identity and it was difficult for police to identify him. We are appealing to people who are missing their relation to come and identify the body,” he said.

Sergeant Bwanali said preliminary investigations had shown that the accident was caused due to over speeding.
He then warned people and motorists to always observe road traffic regulations to avoid loss of lives.
On the question of what charge will be leveled against the driver, Sergeant Bwanali said police has charged him with causing death due to reckless driving contrary to road Traffic Act.
