Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Opposition People’s Party (PP) bigwigs have resolved to make former Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachale as the Paty’s President replacing Dr. Joyce Banda who is currently abroad.

Information at hand says Kachale has been called to help in the rebuilding process ahead of the 2019 general election.

Outspoken PP Provincial chair for the Northern Region Christopher Mzomera Ngwira who was in the forefront advocating for federalism has confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local daily paper in the country [Nation Newspaper].

“It’s Khumbo! We don’t know how long Dr Banda will stay abroad. It may be a year or two. But she is aware of our plans to rebuild the party with Khumbo on the throne,” Ngwira was quoted as saying.

Kachale dumped PP before the 2014 tripartite election where Banda appointed Sosten Gwengwe as her running mate in the polls which saw the then Opposition Democratic Progressive party (DPP) emerging victorious.

Just after the election Banda left the country for United State of America. Her trip raised a lot of speculations in the country with others accusing her of running away from the ongoing investigations to the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate.
