A 57-year old man is in Police custody in the Eastern District of Balaka for allegedly defiling his 15-year old step daughter.
Balaka Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Joseph Sauka confirmed of the development in an interview with the State broadcaster (MBC 1) and identified the suspect as Mark Chafachaona.
According to Sauka, the suspect defiled the girl on several times and he recently facilitated an abortion after the daughter was pregnant.
The girl is said to have told the police that she reported the matter to the law enforcers after her step father renewed his sexual advances on her.
“The suspect, who will be taken to court shortly, blames the devil for actions,” said Sauka.
Chafachaona hails from Magombo village, Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka district.
