Despite the country being in the forefront in fighting Child trafficking, Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that the malpractice growing day in day out.
This is witnessed by reports from Phalombe that Police have rescued 35 Children being trafficked to Mozambique in the month of August alone and arrested 15 suspected perpetrators.
Confirming the development in an interview with one of the local daily papers in the country, Phalombe Police Station spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi said most of the trafficked children are ferried in Mozambique using bicycles.
According to Nkhwazi, most of the Children rescued from Child trafficking are from Zomba, Mulanje and Phalombe Districts.
Nkhwazi said police have since opened five cases of Child Trafficking contrary to Section 79 of the Child Care, Protection and Justice Act and some victims have already been repatriated to their respective homes by police after testifying in the court.
Recently, Blantyre Magistrate Court sentenced a Mangochi man to two years imprisonment with hard labour for trafficking 21 Children from Mozambique.
