President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika arrived in Dalian, China on Monday ahead of the annual meeting of the champions 2015 under the Global Economic Forum (GEF) scheduled to start on September 9.
Upon arrival at Dalian International Airport in the People’s Republic of China, President Mutharika and Madame Gertrude Mutharika were met by Dalian Province vice-mayor Liu Yan, minister of foreign affairs George Chaponda plus senior government officials from the People’s Republic of China and Malawi.
The Malawi leader then proceeded to Shangri-La Hotel in Dalian where he was welcomed by finance minister Goodall Gondwe, minister of trade Joseph Mwananvekha and Malawians based in China.
Speaking before departure at Kamuzu International Airport, Mutharika said the forum will provide an opportunity for Malawi to discuss emerging issues and problems facing the country.
While in China, Mutharika will meet the Premier of the People’s Republic of China and a number of potential investors who have expressed interest to invest in Malawi.
Mutharika will also hold bilateral talks with the Chinese Prime Minister.
