President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s trip to the ongoing United Nation General Assembly continues to make headlines on the social media with the new revelations that he hired private Jet (BD 700-1A10 Global Express Registration Number OE-IGS) from the country to Dubai, blowing money amounting to MK300 million.

Inside sources that opted for anonymity confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press, saying the jet arrived in the country a day before Mutharika’s departure.

Information sourced online indicates that the price of the luxurious heavy jet which sits a maximum of 13 passengers costs a total of 7,500 United States dollars per hour.

This is an equivalent of MK4, 350,000 per hour at a moderate exchange rate of K580 to a dollar. In a day, the UK Private Jet Charter, the company owning the private jet, charges for 24 hours which comes up to a daily charge of MK104,400,000 per day.

For the total 21 day period that the DPP administration has hired the aircraft, it will cost Malawians a whopping 2,192,400,000 (approximately 2.2 billion) Malawi Kwacha.

Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Jet is such an expensive because of its outstanding facilities.

These facilities includes satellite phones which one can use to call anybody in the world, have 4 beds, Luxurious wash rooms, In built Kitchen, Office equipped with luxurious sofas and adjustable tables. The owners advertise these facilities for business executives and politicians to see.

Effort to talk to government officials on the matter proved futile.

Meanwhile Mutharika’s bloated UN trip has attracted countrywide condemnation with others question the President’s integrity.
