As the Kwacha continues to noise dive against major foreign currencies, Carlsberg Malawi Limited has reacted to the development by hiking prices of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages between 12 percent and 18 percent.

Carlsberg Malawi Marketing officials confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press.

According to Carlsberg, two-litre bottle of Sobo Squash is now at K1, 500 from K1 200 while Carlsberg Green in a 300 ml bottle is now at K450 from K400.

Minerals like fanta, Sprite and Cocacola are going at MK200 from MK 140.

Officials said the increase is as a result of the current economic climate in Malawi.

The local currency Kwacha is currently weakening against the dollar and inflation rising sharply.

Carlsberg Malawi noted that inflation and the exchange rate have “affected” the company’s costs “including those for raw materials.”
