President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s uncensored remarks uttered during a media briefing on Thursday has attracted mixed reactions from the general public on the social media with others accusing him of lacking leadership mind.

Mutharika, who looked so angry told the Press that his office demand some respect from Malawians, saying the tendency of placing deadlines on national issues should come to an end.

His threat came amid calls for his resignation from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), accusing him of over spending tax-payers money on his bloated trip to the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) where it is reported that he was accompanied by over 111 delegates.

One Malawian identified as Franco Osei Mserembo said Malawians need to hold Mutharika accountable for every decision he makes.

“No leadership traits . He is there for reasons known to himself and not to lead Malawians. He should about how Moses led the Jews out of Egypt and how he provided food and water to them when they complained. Malawians are owners of the money he is abusing. Malawians are owners of the money he is surviving. We do need an explanation and not insults,” wrote Mserembo.

Another Malawian identified as Favoured Victor: “Malawians vote based on the following: 1 what tribe one comes from 2 What is the history of the party. Thus we end up regreting in the end which also gives power to the president to do whatever he/she wishes.”

On his part, one of the human right activists in the country, Billy Mayaya has expressed shock over Mutharika’s remarks.

“Yesterday, the President did not communicate anything but ANGER. He needed to follow three basic rules of communication. 1. What is the Source of your communication? 2. What is the message you want to communicate? 3. What is your Audience?

“At the end of the briefing, I am convinced we don’t have a leader who can talk to the people who elected him. He tried to make sense out of nonsense out of the advice his so-called advisors gave him,” wrote Mayaya.

He added: “The President is accountable to Malawians. He can’t be shouting at citizens as if they were children. We will not be silenced. Malawi is going down the tubes and he is busy gallivanting around the world instead of showing leadership!!

Meanwhile Mutharika has maintained his stand that he will continue hiring private jet for external travel.
