A 39-year-old man is in Police custody in Mchinji for allegedly posing as a medical doctor at Mchinji District Hospital.

The suspect was arrested by the Police on Tuesday at the hospital premises.

Mchinji Police Station spokesperson Moses Nyirenda confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press and identified the suspect as Blessings Chisale.

According to Nyirenda, the suspect used up to four names interchangeably to suit circumstances raising suspicion among patients and hospital staff.

Apart from the name Blessings, he is identified as C. Simoko on an identity card of one security firm, while village-mates and those at the hospital identified him as Gift Chimwaza and Veriano Fululani respectively.

Nyirenda said the suspect also told the guards at the hospital that he was a trained medical practitioner briefly attached to the hospital as a doctor awaiting transfer to Mzuzu Central Hospital.

“After searching his house Police recovered security firm’s uniform, Identity card and stethoscope which the suspect said he a acquired it when he undertook a Christian Health Association of Malawi course which he failed to complete because of fees problems,” said Nyirenda.

The suspect has since been with impersonating public officers, contrary to Section 99 of the Penal Code.

Chisale hails from Chimwaza Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimwaza.
