Police in Phalombe are keeping in custody two men believed to have stolen solar panel meant for Gogo Nazombe Health centre.

According to National Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Rhoda Manjolo, the suspects, Edson Khonjera, 33 from Nkhughani Village Traditional Authority Mtwaro, Mzimba and Edward Buleya 38 of Mdoda village, Traditional Authority Mkhumba, Phalombe were arrested on October 25 having been found in possession of solar panel they stole from the health centre.

Manjolo said Nkhonjera a Medical Assistant connived with his friend to sell some of the solar panels the hospital had. The deal went unnoticed until on October 25, 2015 when John Selemani a man believed to have bought the panels from the suspect was identified by one member of the community policing carrying solar in the sacks.

“Upon being asked Selemani revealed to have bought the panels from Nkhonjera and Buleya who are staff at Gogo Nazombe Health centre.

“After that, the matter was reported to the DHO who later reported to police who arrested them,” Manjolo explained.

The suspects will appear before court soon to answer charges of theft by public servant.

Meanwhile, the police service is advising the general public to be responsible and take good care of things that benefit a large group of people.mana
