Health service delivery at Kasungu District Hospital has come to a standstill following a decision by Central Region Water Board to disconnect water at the premise over unpaid bills.

The development has also forced guardians at the hospital to fetch water from unsafe places such as rivers.

Ministry of Health Spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying his office is engaging with the Central Region Water Board for a possible re-connection by the close of business today.

When pressed disclose how much the hospital is owing the board, Chikumbe denied to comment on the matter.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the hospital owes Central Region Water Board money amounting to over MK10 million.

Meanwhile it is not clear if the matter will be sorted out as soon as possible.
