Minister of Information, Tourism and Civic Education Jappie Mhango has come out clean in a case where he was suspected to be behind the arrest of late Tasokwa Msiska’s sons as alleged by some opposition MP s in the August House.

Mhango was chased away from a funeral of late Msiska last week by angry mourners on the grounds that he was behind the death of the deceased.
Days later, Police in Rumphi arrested Msiska’s sons Christopher and his brother.

The development raised speculations that Msiska was behind the whole saga as part of revenge and opposition MPs led by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP Richard Chimwendo Banda pressing for explanation on the matter.

Giving a report on Wednesday in Parliament, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Samuel Tembenu said Mhango is not behind the arrest of Msiska’s sons as alleged opposition benches.

Tembenu said Rumphi police had received a complaint that the children of Msiska’s had assaulted a traditional healer from their village and have since appeared before the court and duly been charged.

He also told Parliament that since the matter is before court it cannot be debated in Parliament.

Delivering his ruling on the case, Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya just closed the case for discussion.

Meanwhile Msiska’s sons appeared in court on Wednesday and they have since been charged for unlawful wounding.
