Drama ensured in Parliament on Tuesday when opposition People’s Party (PP) member of Parliament for Rumphi East Constituency Kamlepo Kalua stood in the chamber demanding salaries.

Standing on point of order interrupting Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe who was tabling bill concerning water woes in Mzimba, Kalua said it is out of order to see that Members of Parliament are yet to receive their November salaries.

Kalua demanded justification from the Minister of Finance, saying it is not on for the Members to start a new month without salaries.

Reacting to the claims while in deep laughter, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Esther Mcheka Chilenje Nkhoma ruled Kalua out of order, saying he has not followed proper procedures in tabling the issues before the August House.

Chilenje warned Kalua and other MPs in the August House to stop abusing the point of orders.

Earlier in the day, Kalua distances himself from the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate which happened during the era of former President Dr. Joyce Banda, saying he was not part of the scam.

Kalua challenged the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa that he should stop referring to cashgate as the main hindrances to some of the stalled development being carried in the country.

The controversial MP demanded an apology from Nankhumwa for linking him to Cashgate but Chilenje rejected the call.
