United Democratic Front (UDF) has disclosed that it has introduced party membership cards to assess the number and the commitment of its members in supporting the party at all levels across the country.

According to information at hand, the exercise is expected to start in January next year across the country.

UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the privately owned radio [Zodiak Broadcasting Station], saying the initiative was endorsed during a National Executive Committee meeting held in Lilongwe two weeks ago.

Ndanga said the main objective of the exercise is to ensure that all party members are identified through possession of identity cards which will be given to members upon paying a fee.

When pressed as to whether the move will not scare away members, Ndanga trashed the accession, saying the exercise will be done in a considerable manner and to only those people who are willing.

The exercise was first practiced in the country during the first reign of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) under late Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

Former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi heavily criticized the system during his 10 year rule, saying it was a sign of dictatorship by the old Party.
