Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is today conducting by-elections in Zomba Chisi constituency, Mtope Ward in Mchinji West and Ngala Ward in Lilongwe.

According to information at hand, voting in all poling centers opened at 6am and will be closed at 6pm or when the last person, to be on the queue before closing time, votes.

MEC Stringer Given Chichitike told this publication that it is sunny this morning in Mtope ward in Mchinji providing more room for those who registered to go and cast their votes.

He says polling Centres opened at 6am with few individuals queuing to vote early.

People of Mtope ward are electing their councillor today following the death of John Msumatiza in July this year.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, MEC Public Relations Officer Sangwani Mwafulirwa said preparations for the by-elections were finalized in time and all the necessary materials were dispatched in good time.

Mwafulirwa urged voters not to wear or carry anything that can identify them with a particular party or candidate.

Meanwhile results of the by-elections will be announced on Wednesday.
