As the shooting case of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo is nearing its climax, the High Court Judge Michael Mtambo has summoned the then opposition People’s Party (PP) Vice President for the South Brown Mpinganjira to testify in the case.

The summoning follows Mphwiyo’s claims during his testimony that some PP top officials including Mpinganjira and the then PP spokesperson Hophmally Makande were pressuring him to authorize payments.

On Tuesday during cross examination, the presiding Judge Michael Mtambo wondered why the state is not summoning Mpinganjira to testify in the case.

Reacting to the claims, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mary Kachale said the state will be issuing a subpoena to Mpinganjira and he will be appearing in court on Friday next week.

Kachale also disclosed that the state will soon make an application to object the call by the first accused in the case Macdonald Kumwembe that Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Reyneck Matemba to appear in court as witness.

Meanhwile the case has been adjourned to January 12, 2016.
