Thugs on Wednesday night broke into Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund (SFFRF) shop in Ntcheu and went away with K22 million.
Reliable sources who opted for anonymity confined to Malawi News Agency, saying the thugs tied both legs and feet of watchman who was on duty during the night at SFFRF premises.
“After breaking into the shop, the thugs managed to trace where the money was being kept and went away with over K22 million leaving the watchman untied,” said the sources.
Confirming the incident, Ntcheu Police Public Relations Officer, Gift Matewere said Police have since arrested the shop’s sales clerk and the watchman as investigations continue.
He said as police approached the scene, they established that the sales clerk was keeping over K24 million and police found over K2 million remaining in the shop.
“Following our preliminary investigations into the matter, we have arrested Sales Clerk, Soya Chimenya, 43, of Chabuka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kaduya in Phalombe and watchman, Charles Lyson, 36, who hails from Kasiya Village in the area of Senior Chief Kwataine in Ntcheu,” said Matewere.
He said the two have been arrested on allegations that they conspired to commit a felony and they are expected to appear before court once police are through with investigations.
Matewere then appealed to business people to avoid keeping large sums of money, advising them to bank their money after sales, daily, or rather involve the police whenever they cannot manage to go to the Bank due to some factors such as time limitations. mana
