According to statistics from the latest National Survey on Access to and Usage of ICT Services in Malawi, Airtel Malawi continues to top the market in mobile telecommunications whilst mobile money property, ‘Airtel Money’, equally stands tall above the rest in the banking sector.

The National Survey was conducted courtesy of Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) in conjunction with the National Statistical Office (NSO).

In accordance to the report published on MACRA’s website, Airtel Malawi commands the domestic mobile telecommunications market with a 55.9 percent share to its’ runner up pegged at 43.7 percent.

Acting Managing Director for Airtel Malawi, Charles Kamoto urged his team to increase the brand’s muscle and continue to grow while commending them for their effort as champions of the market.

“This is a remarkable new year start for the Airtel family. These findings underline that our investments, products, innovations and services are registering an impact in our society. Our lead also emphasizes the trust that we have grown with the people and their belief in our brand. We shall keep on being a competitive, innovative and customer centered brand. We promise to deliver nothing but value to our customers,” said Kamoto adding that results of the survey would make Airtel do more homework as a market leader.

It is reported that in the previous year, Airtel Malawi registered 3.5 million active subscribers on its network as well as one million registrations on its mobile money banking platform, Airtel Money.

“The survey, being the first ever, tried as much as possible to capture data and information on ICT indicators as defined by the guidelines and methodologies set by International Telecommunication Union, the World Summit on Information Society and the Universal Postal Union as well as those on recent global ICT developments,” Macra said in a statement as it confirmed the commissioning of the national survey.
