Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera arrived in the country on Monday through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe from his political tour in United States of America.

Speaking to the press after disembarking in a plane, Chakwera promised to solve the squabbles locking his party.

MCP has recently been locked in disagreements between its Publicity Secretary, Jesse Kabwila, and other party officials following the unceremonious ‘suspension’ of seven district chairpersons for allegedly holding secret meetings to destabilise the party.

As this is not enough, other MCP officials were recently summoned to appear before court for allegedly assaulting former party presidential aspirant Lyton Dzombe.

In his speech, Chakwera said he has been partly brief of the squabbles locking the party.

“As you know, I had a long trip from USA but I have been briefed of the wrangles emerging within the party and let me assure you that we will sit down in contact and dialogue spirit and resolve them,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera who received a VVIP welcome at KIA was received by the Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya who is also the Party’s Vice President.

Recently media reports also indicated that MCP is planning to oust President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika which many commentators have branded as political propaganda by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Meanwhile MCP is yet to comment on the report.
