Medical Assistant at Doviko Health Center is in Police custody in Ntcheu for allegedly selling government medical drugs to a businessman in the district.

Police in Ntcheu have confirmed of the development in a statement made available to the press and identified the suspect as Elinata Mapondera.

Police said the arrested Mapondera along with her accomplice Welosi Chiunjiza who bought the drugs from the said Medical assistant.

“On 10th Feb, 2016 police received a tip from other members of the public that Mapondera was selling medical drugs meant for government hospitals at Tsangano turn off trading centre.

“Police rushed to the place and arrested Mapondera together with Chiunjiza. Chiunjiza has been charged with an offence of Found in Possession of Medical drugs suspected to have been stolen while Mapondera has been charged with Theft by Servant,” reads in part the statement.

The suspects will appear before court soon to answer charges leveled against them.

Mapondera hails from Zidyani village, Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka district while Chiunjiza comes from Kapala village, Traditional Authority Chakhumbira in Ntcheu district.
