Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member Ulemu Msungama has been released on bail after being charged with Sedition contrary to Section 51 of the Penal Code.
Msungama was arrested on Sunday in the capital Lilongwe over leaked whatssap message where he alleged that there is need for a regime change, saying President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has failed to run the affairs of the country.
His release follows a threat by MCP’s officials flanked by People’s Party (PP) Interim President Uladi Mussa and its Secretary General Ibrahim Matola who visited the victim threatened to hold vigil at Kanengo Police Station until Msungama is released.
FaceofMalawi visit at Kanengo Police station saw MCP officials plus PP officials chanting anti-Mutharika songs.
Few minutes later, MCP officials were seen chanting in smile after it was leant that Msungama has been released.
Msungama and MCP officials denied speaking to the press after the development, saying they will speak to the Press at its headquarters in Lilongwe.
Meanwhile Police are hunting for Jessie Kabwila and Lewis Chakwantha on the same charges as those of Msungama.
