Member of Parliament for Rumphi East who is also opposition People’s Party (PP) third Vice President Kamlepo Kalua has written a letter requesting Malawi President Peter Mutharika to come to Parliament to clarify government claims to have procured maize for Malawians.
The development come barely two days after Kamlepo, popularly known as the ‘foot soldier’ asked the Speaker of Parliament to summon Mutharika to appear before parliament to answer some of the questions pertaining the hunger crisis in the country.
In reaction, Msowoya said there is no any request at his table to ask the President to appear before Parliament and he asked Kamlepo to follow proper procedure like that of using parliament standing orders which he promised to do so.
Kamlepo is reported in the media saying he has evidence that Malawi government has not procured maize from Zambia as claimed.
He says Zambia has banned exportation of maize to Malawi and Zambia’s Agriculture minister has confirmed the ban.
Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if the President will bow down to the request and appear before Parliament.
