Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has ignored calls for President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s resignation by some delegates at the just ended meeting in the commercial capital Blantyre aiming at providing solutions to the challenges rocking the country, saying the body believes that the government can end Malawi’s current problems.
PAC organized a two days meeting held at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre from 17th February and the meeting draws together representative from government, opposition political parties, business captains, Civil Society representatives and scholars.
During the meeting opposition People’s Party (PP) representatives and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) representative proposed for resignation of President Mutharika in 30days, accusing him of not having the clue of solving some of the challenges rocking the country.
The oppositions cited the hunger situation in the country which has seen some people losing their lives and the continued depreciation of the kwacha and others.
But government through its spokesperson Jappie Mhango trashed the call, saying its non-starter.
Mhango labeled Jessie Kabwila of MCP and PP third Vice President Kamlepo Kalua and its spokesperson Ken Msonda as disgruntled politicians who have nothing to offer for Malawians.
Speaking during media briefing on Thursday, PAC Chairperson Felix Chingota said the body has resolved that Mutharika should solve the challenges now not in 30 days as proposed by the delegates during the meeting.
Chingota said Mutharika and his government can address the concerns raised by the group during the meeting and there is no need to call for his resignation.
