As Malawians continue to spend a sleepless night in search for Maize in ADMARC deports across the country, some concerned citizen has organized demonstrations scheduled for March 10, 2016.
The concerned citizen wants the government to come up with immediate solutions to the food crisis in the country which has left some Malawians dying of hunger.
One of the organizers who also happen to be a human right activist, Billy Mayaya confirmed of the development in a short statement posted on his official Facebook page.
Mayaya said he is tired of contradictory statement from government on maize scarcity in the country.
“We will match from Kamuzu Central round about to Parliament where the petition will be delivered to the parliamentary committee on agriculture, so that they take proper action on this matter. And we’ll continue to put pressure on government to have our concerns heard,” Mayaya was quoted as saying.
Effort to talk to government spokesperson Jappie Mhango proved futile.
Last week, the issue of Maize scarcity in the country caused commotion in Parliament with opposition Political parties accusing government of lacking clue on how to solve the hunger situation in Malawi.
As this was not enough, Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua summoned President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to appear before Parliament to answer questions raised by the opposition on the matter.
Meanwhile reports indicate that over 40 trucks of Maize from Tanzania have arrived in the country.
