Former opposition People’s Party (PP) provincial chair for the north and Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira has accused Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Esther Mcheka Chilenje of being biased.

Mzomera Ngwira uttered this in the August House on Wednesday afternoon when Deputy Speaker blocked him twice to contribute on the budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Health.

Standing on point of order, Ngwira wondered as to why the Deputy Speaker is fond of blocking him when he wants to make contribution.

“Madam Deputy Speaker madam, this is what always happen to this member when he want to contribute, he is always blocked when you [Mcheka Chilenje] seat on that chair. I wonder why? Now from today onwards you will never see me standing or raising my hand to speak on anything as long as you are the one seating on that chair. I will never speak,” said Ngwira.

The remarks attracted ululations from the opposition MPs with others shouting that Mcheka Chilenje belongs to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Chilenje who looked so angry after exchanging worlds with Mzomera Ngwira for close to five minutes, invited the MP into her office to resolve the matter amicably.

Recently, the DPP MPs accused Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya of favouring opposition MPs with others advocating for his impeachment.

But Msowoya quashed the claims, saying he will use his powers to discipline any member in the house who misbehave.
