Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya on Monday told lawmakers that the house will not reconvene on Tuesday 15, 2016 for business to allow members to attend the burial of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP for Mchinji West Billy Kanjira Banda.
Kanjira Banda died after collapsing at St Francis Catholic Church in Lilongwe Area 25 Sunday morning.
Making announcements on Monday afternoon, Msowoya said the business committee of Parliament met where they agreed to call off today’s business in the house to allow members to attend the burial ceremony.
Msowoya said the burial will take place at the deceased home village Chalenga in the Area of Traditional Authority Simphasi in Mchinji District
.
Billy Kanjira Banda was kicked out of the August House on Friday after engaging in verbal war with Deputy Speaker of parliament Esther Mcheka Chilenje.
It all started when Kanjira Banda made strong claims that DPP MPs and Cabinet Ministers were promised huge sums of money once the mid-year budget review is passed.
Kanjira Banda categorically pointed out leader of government in parliament Francis Kasaila to have been promised MK50 million with deputy ministers being promised MK20 million and mere MPs 15 million while Ministers who are not MPs MK10 million each.
The MP was expected to deliver his evidence on the matter at 2pm on Monday.
