As debate continues on the hard hitting, soul searching Catholic bishops pastoral letter released on Sunday on the social media with others advising the government not to ignore the concerns raised in the letter, information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicate that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is yet to receive a copy.

The pastoral letter which was read in all churches across the country titled ‘MERCY OF GOD AS a PATH OF HOPE on Current Socio-Political and Economic Issues in Malawi’ tackles various challenges rocking the country such as hunger crisis.

Speaking in an interview with the Press, Presidential Press Officer Gerald Viola said Mutharika is yet to receive the letter.

When pressed on whether Mutharika will respond to the letter or not, Viola said Mutharika will have his say once he receives the copy.

“May be after he has seen it, read it and understood its contents, he may respond but the understanding is that the pastoral letter is meant for Catholic faithful. Just be patient, he may issue a statement,” he said.

On his part, opposition People’s Party (PP) spokesperson Ken Msonda has expressed doubt if the DPP administration will take hide of the advice by catholic bishops.

“When our Spiritual Fathers speak, God Has spoken and when God Has spoken you don’t respond or comment.

“The only thing a sensible person does in such circumstances is to take heed and listen to the voice of reason,” said Msonda.

Meanwhile it is yet to be seen if President Mutharika will respond to the pastoral letter or not.
