Expelled opposition People’s Party (PP) provincial chair for the North Christopher Mzomera Ngwira risk arrest for allegedly being behind the bloody violence in Mzuzu over the weekend where four Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members were seriously injured.

MCP together with PP and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) on Sunday a joint rally in Mzuzu at Chibavi ground but the rally was marred by serious violence as thugs armed with machetes invaded the venue.

The alleged thugs stripped naked PP members and in the process injured four MCP members including Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s personal aide.

But Ngwira voluntary admitted of being behind the fracas in an interview with the press, saying he together with other PP members were not happy with the presence of Kamlepo Kalua and he said he warned Harry Mkandawire of the violence.

The violence received heavy criticisms from various sectors with Livingstonia synod pushing for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

On Tuesday, Police arrested four people namely Francis Kasyololo 30, George Mwantombe 38, Lumbani Munthali 28 and Clive Nthakomwa 52.

Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press, saying more arrest will be made on the matter.

Meanwhile information at hand indicates that Police are hunting for Mzomera Ngwira.
