Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that Police have secretly released five people suspected to have been behind the chaos that erupted during a joint rally held at Chabivi in Mzuzu where four Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members were hacked.
MCP together with opposition People’s Party (PP) and Alliance for Democracy (Aford) held a rally at Chibavi ground but the rally was marred by violence as thugs armed with matchetes stormed the venue.
The armed thugs stripped naked PP members and in the process four MCP members including MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s personal aide.
The development attracted countrywide condemnation with Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) asking the police to speed up investigations and bring perpetrators to book.
Due to pressure Police arrested five people namely Thembisire Nkosi, 32 from Nkosi village, Traditional Authority Nthwalo in Mzimba; George Mwamtobe, 38, from Mwangukulu Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kilipula in Karonga; Lumbani Munthali, 29, from Matupi Village, T/A Chikulamayembe, Rumphi; Clive Nthakomwa, 52, of Malema Village, T/A Kyungu in Karonga; and, Frank Simwaka Kashololo, 30, from Kashololo Village, T/A Mwenewenya in Chitipa.
But reports indicate that the suspects have been released unconditionally.
The release has made the general public to believe reports hovering on the social media that the suspects have implicated some of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) bigwigs.
