Police in Ndirande Township in the commercial capital Blantyre on Wednesday shot dead a suspected criminal found wandering at night.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local daily papers in the country [Daily Times].

According to Mikuwa, the deceased together with his three colleagues were found near Avis Car Rental premises by police officers who were on patrol.

“When police officers approached them to find out what they were doing, the suspected criminals started run forcing the police to fire bullets and killed one of them,” said Mikuwa.

According to Mikuwa, the deceased was found with a pistol without any live ammunition.

The deceased was pronounced dead upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).

Meanwhile police have launched a man hunt for the three suspected criminals who are large.
