The story work shop advised government to support farmers who are in group than giving the subsidy programs to small holder farmers which cannot overcome the problem of hunger in Malawi.
According to one of the officials of Story work shop, C. Chunga said giving the subsidy programs to small holder farmers has failed to reduce hunger in Malawi. Therefore, it is better to stop this program.
Chunga said, “This country has suffered a lot from the climate change. I travailed a lot in this country and I have seen that we have affected by hunger. There are only few farmers who will harvest this year due to dry spell. I have seen also many Malawians prefer the old fashionable way of cultivating our crops not knowing that the climate has changed. Therefore, as we know that the climate has changed let’s try other method of cultivating. We should not much depend on small holder farmers who use the hoes and believe that they can feed us all! If farmers work in groups, and be cooperative, they can cultivate many hectors. Therefore, they can feed the entire Malawi.”
