South African Airways has cancelled flight to Kamuzu International Airport in the capital Lilongwe due to safety concerns.
The developments comes after the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has warned that delays to address aviation safety issues could put the country’s airports at risk of being blacklisted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao).
SAA Tlali Tlali confirmed of the development in an interview with the press on Friday.
“We operate within a highly regulated industry and must always ensure compliance with the prescribed requirements set out by the regulating authorities,” reads the statement in part.
According to published reports, passengers were left stranded at the airport as most of them already book their flight.
Meanwhile SAA has advised their customers that they would re-book their flights under certain terms and conditions.
