Two people are in police custody in Mulanje for allegedly cultivating cannabis sativa locally known as Chamba in a fence behind their houses.

Mulanje Police Station spokesperson Gresham Ngwira has confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

The two are Wyson Simeon (58) and Sankhani Simeon (53).

According to Ngwira, the law enforcers found the Chamba plants after visiting the two brothers following a tip from well-wishers.

“Wyson was found with 65 plants while Sankhani was found with 117 plants which have been sent to Bvumbwe Research Station for examination,” he said.

The two will appear in court soon to answer an offence of cultivating cannabis sativa contrary to Section Six (6) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
