Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has expressed his sympathy with people displaced by floods in the northern region.

Chakwera said this during media briefing held at MCP headquarters in the capital Lilongwe aiming at updating his followers on what transpired at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) where police stopped party followers from welcoming him.

“It sad that we have had destruction by floods in the northern region which have destroyed property and led to loss of lives.

“Climate change is no strange thing in the world, we can’t say God is wrong to allow that. But as a people we need to prepare for such things, because if we won’t change our thinking we can be blaming God on everything,” said Chakwera.

Turning to yesterday’s incident, Chakwera said he was surprised with the Police tendency.

“I had a safe journey back home but only that i was suprised yesterday when i arrived at the airport only to get reports that members of Malawi Congress Party were barred to enter at the airport to welcome me.

“When i reached the first check point i was suprised to see members of MCP waiting for me and the armed police men around,i was really surprised “is this the same Malawi where all people have the right to welcome their beloved ones?,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera was in Portugal where he was elected vice president of Christian Democratic Institute (CDI).
