President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated four young Malawians who recently made headlines for their wonderful innovations.

Panashe Jere emerged victorious in the Smart Kid Category of the TNM Smart Challenge Competition following his innovative ‘Talk to Me’ app while Walter Moyo, Daniel Mvalo and Thandie Magasa jointly developed ‘Maternitech’, a mobile app designed to provide essential information to Malawian women of the reproductive age group.

Panache was also congratulated by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Writing on his officials Facebook page, Mutharika said he is expressed four Malawians young achievers.

“The stories of Panashe Jere, Walter Moyo, Daniel Mvalo and Thandie Magasa and their achievements at the Facebook F8 Conference in Silicon Valley is an inspiration to other young and budding software developers and Malawi’s youth in general.

“We are pleased with how the four flew high the Malawi flag on the international stage at the F8 Conference,” wrote Mutharika.

He added: “As the UNFPA Global Champion for the youth I encourage other young people to be innovative.”

Facebook used its F8 conference this year to launch products developed by African coders.

The social network wanted the African developer’s to use Facebook’s global reach and scale to market their products globally.
