President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has learn with gratitude the appointment of Reverend Father John Alphonsus Ryan as Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese.

Pope Francis appointed Father Ryan on Tuesday 26, 2016 to replace late Bishop Joseph Zuza who died in road accident in Chikangawa forest on his way to Mzuzu in 2015.

This was disclosed in a press statement released Tuesday by Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) made available to FaceofMalawi.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Mutharika said he really appreciate the good work the Catholic Church plays in the country.

“My government appreciates the working partnership it has with religious institutions in the country in general and the Roman Catholic Church in particular.

“May the Good Lord bless the Bishop-elect as he readies himself for the task ahead. We owe him our fullest support,” said Mutharika.

Meanwhile Father Ryan will be consecrated as Bishop for Mzuzu Diocese in July this year.
