Journalists across the country over the weekend converged in the Eastern district of Mangochi to commemorate World Press freedom Day which falls on May 3 2016 every year but in Malawi the cerebrations were held on Saturday.

The celebrations reached its climax Saturday as various Journalists from the Print and Electronic media received awards for playing a very important role in informing the general public about what is happening both locally and internationally.

One of the Journalists who received at the event was Snowden Kadzakumanja, a Photojournalist at Times Group Limited.

Kadzakumanja was awarded for taking picture showing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika falling down outside Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe in January this year.

The picture which went viral on the social media attracted mixed reactions with others questioning the health of the President.

Days later, rumours were all over that State House has hired special doctors from South Africa to treat the President.

Reacting to the rumours, the then Presidential Press Officer Gerald Viola trashed it saying Mutharika is fine.

The celebrations also saw Zodiak Broadcasting Station being crowned best Electronic Media of the year for the ninth time and Times Group being crowned best Print media of the year outclassing Nation Newspaper.
