President Professor Peter Mutharika has accepted invitation to grace the 125 years celebrations of the St Michaels and All Angels Church of the Central Church of African Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod on May 15, 2016.

Meeting members of the organising committee of the celebration at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Thursday, Mutharika said the history of Malawi cannot be complete without mentioning the works of the church and its founders who helped in the liberation of the country.

He said that 125 year is worth cerebrating and encouraged the church to continue its works of supporting the Government in the departments of education, health and sports.

In his remarks, Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Stain Singo said it will be a great honour to have the President as the Guest of honour at the celebration not just as a Leader but also a as the member of the St Michaels and All Angels Church.

“We are very grateful to the Mutharika family for always supporting the Blantyre Synod, in 2010, the late President Bingu WA Mutharika also graced the 100 years celebrations of the Henry Henderson Institute (HHI) where he made the donation of a vehicle and paid all the cost of the clothing.

“And now to have President Peter Mutharika, it will be the repeating and making the history. We are very happy with the interest the President has shown in the celebration by accepting invitation first hand,” he said.

According to Singo, the celebrations will start on the May 14 with sporting activities at the Henry Henderson Secondary School Ground and the next day on Sunday service will start at 10: 00am where the President will be asked to plant a M’bawa Tree to mark the history of the celebrations and there after he is expected to read the scripture from the New Testament from the Book of Matthew Chapter 5 vs. 13-15.mana
