Debate came to a standstill in Parliament on Tuesday as MPs from opposition benches quarried Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security demanded an explanation over the Police recruitment mess.

The whole issue was started by Member of Parliament for Lilongwe North East, Maxwell Thyolera (Malawi Congress Party –MCP).

Thyolera claimed that he has information that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is recruiting its cadet into Police force in preparations for the 2019 elections.

The claims did not please the government chief whip Dr. George Chaponda who stood on point of order demanding an explanation from Thyolera.

Chaponda went further to ask Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje to allow Thyolera to bring evidence in Parliament, saying the claims are serious.

When asked to bring evidence by Chilenje, Thyolera agreed to do so.

Mcheka Chilenje then asked him to return to the chamber Wednesday afternoon with evidence.

Last sitting of Parliament, Mchinji West Member of Parliament MP Billy Kanjira Banda was also asked to bring evidence in Parliament for claiming that Ministers have been promised huge sums of money once the supplementary budget is passed.

Hours before the due day, Kanjira was pronounced dead.
