President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated seven youths who embarked on 362-kilometre 10-day charity walk from Lilongwe to Blantyre to raise funds for High Dependency Unit of Kamuzu Central Hospital’s pediatric ward.

The youths namely Wanangwa Msutu, Duwa E.Mvula, Milca Mphepo, Tiya Kapalamula, Ruth Gondwe, Ivy Chilingulo, Kalolo Msaka and their spokesperson Deborah Mayuni left Lilongwe on May 30 and arrived in Blantyre on June 8.

The youths who belong to Charity organization called ‘Beyond You’ and they managed to raise money amounting to MK18 million.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Mutharika said he is deeply grateful for the selfless efforts demonstrated by the charity walkers.

“To the many supportive Malawians that stepped forward to contribute in this important fundraising walk for the cause of buying medical equipment for the High Dependency Unit of Kamuzu Central Hospital’s pediatric ward, we say thank you!

“Let this selfless and patriotic spirit spread among our people and every challenge before us will be surmountable,” wrote Mutharika.

The group wanted to raise money amounting to MK22 millon.
