Several sex workers in Nkhotakota are unable to buy condoms which are supposed to be given for free as some officials at the district hospital sell them these condoms and so, unwillingly they do have unprotected sex with clients.

They made such confession full of grieves at the end of a week workshop on HIV and Aids prevention, cervical cancer and tuberculosis screening held at Nkhata Bay just few days ago.

One of the sex workers disclosed that health workers from Nthotakota District Hospital sell condoms to them at k10 each and k500 per pack.

“We go to the hospital to collect condoms, but we are always told that they are no longer distributed free of charge. Sometimes an official comes to our hostels to sell government labeled condoms,” she said.

However, the district hospital’s spokesperson Justice Malunga has refuted the development and said that they do not sell these condoms.

Meanwhile, he promised to investigate the matter as it may be some imposters who sell these condoms to sex workers.
