As debate continues over the conviction of former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara in the shooting case of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo, Malawi Law Society (MLS) says his membership with the body await the conclusion of the case.

Kasambara together with his co-accused MacDonald and Pika Manondo were on Thursday convicted by High Court Judge Michael Mtambo of conspiracy and an attempt to murder Paul Mphwiyo in September 13, 2013.

Speaking in an interview with the press, MLS Secretary Khumbo Soko said the body is disappointed with Kasambara but it’s too early to determine his fate.

“He remains on the roll of legal practitioners in the country, though am not sure whether he has renewed his licence. But he remains on the roll until disciplinary proceedings started and subsequently conviction and then the chief justice made a finding that he should be removed from the roll of legal practitioners,” said Soko.

Meanwhile Kasambara has described his conviction as unreasonable and couldn’t be supported by evidence to convict him.
