President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has ordered for the immediate opening of Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (UNIMA).

Mutharika made the order today during a meeting between him and University of Malawi Student Union leaders at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.

University Council closed CHANCO two weeks ago after the students from the college went on rampage protesting against fee hike.

The Council cited security as the main reason for the closure of the college.

The protest also spread to Polytechnic in Blantyre, Kamuzu College of Nursing both Blantyre and Lilongwe campus and College of Medicine (CoM).

And today Civil Society Organization (CSOs) held a national wide demostrations to force the DPP administration under Mutharika to revise the fees downward, saying the adjustment is unjustifiable.

The CSOs have set August 15, 2016 as the last day for Mutharika to respond to the petition.
