Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika had a bilateral meeting with the former President of the United States of America, His Excellency Bill Clinton on Monday September 19, in New York.

The two leaders discussed matters of cooperation between Malawi, the United States of America and the Clinton Global Initiative.

Bill Clinton is founder of the Clinton Global Initiative.

Specifically, the two leaders discussed existing and planned development projects in Malawi financed through the Clinton Global Initiative.

President Clinton agreed to support Malawi’s health programs on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in addition to the existing support towards health infrastructure and the fight against HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

In addition, the two leaders discussed the effects of climate change and the resultant hunger in Malawi, and shared solutions and commitments towards ending food insecurity in Malawi

The meeting was extremely cordial, and ended with President Clinton accepting President Mutharika’s invitation to visit Malawi where they would carry forward their conversation.
