Malawians have criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for paying monthly salaries of three Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commanders including the current one Griffin Spoon-Phiri.

According to published reports, government is paying full salary of fired army general Henry Odillo, Ignasio Maulana and the current army commander.
Minister of Information Malison Ndau confirmed of the development, saying this is so due to some contractual agreements.

“Their contracts were prematurely cut so if the government fails to pay them, they can successfully sue and the government will spend more,” he said.
According to information sourced by this publication, odillo’s contract will expire in 2017 while that of Maulana will expire in 19.

The situation has left many Malawians with a lot of questions without answers and some even took the issue to the social media questioning the government.

Max Zakeyo Chunga wrote: “Dont get surprised, this is corruption related bcoz the govt knows everything but they choose not to fix the anomaly since they benefit from such arrangements, thats how Malawi has crumbled under bizzar leadership of APM.”

Another concerned citizen identified as Achimidzimidzi: “If these 2 army generals can successfully sue government, that means they illegally dismissed. Our government making mistakes all the way to 2019 until 2024 ……..”

Rachel Katengeza Beleka: “That’s why our country is toping the list of poorest countries world over,we should expect these to be happen in many departments because our country is lead by unvisionary leader.”

Meanwhile economic analyst in the country has advised government to tread carefully on the matter, saying this is another Cashagate.
