Police in Kasungu are keeping in custody 4 game poachers for illegally possessing and manufacturing firearms.

The four were arrested during the Anti-Poaching Operation conducted during the night of 13-14 October, 2016 in the villages around Kasungu National Park.

During the operation, 18 riffles which were being illegally possessed were recovered.

The four suspects are identified as (1) Matiyasi Bwenje, 58 of Chigawo village, Traditional Authority Kawamba in Kasungu district (2) Kundika Benamu, 48, (3) Richard Elson,35 and (4)Jailosi Chitseka, 44 all from Chipembere village, Traditional Authority Mthunduwala in Kasungu district.

Bwenje and Benamu were found with 14 Muzzle Loader riffles manufactured by themselves while Elson and Chitseka were found with two unregistered riffles, one Pump Gun and one Greener riffle.

The four have been charged with Illegal Manufacturing of Firearms and Illegal Possession of Firearms contrary to Section 12 of Firearms Act. The four suspects will appear before court soon to answer to the charges leveled against them when inquiries are completed.
