As the country continues to experience power outages and water problems, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has denied being responsible for the challenges, saying previous government did nothing to improve the water and energy sector.

Mutharika said this in Mulanje on Monday during the official launch of Likhubula water project which will see Blantyre Water Board taping water from Mulanje to supply Blantyre City and other areas around.

In his speech, Mutharika said that persistent power outages and water supply shortage that the country is experiencing is due to poor planning by previous government by not investing much in Water and Energy Sector.

He said most of the equipment used by Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in generating electricity for over 16 million Malawians has outlived hence the challenge.

Mutharika also attributed the challenge to Climate change.

The president then urged his critics especially Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to stop blaming him for every challenge the country is facing.

On his part, the Party’s Regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha warned Chakwera to stop molesting the President.

Mchacha said Chakwera should stop dreaming of becoming the President of Malawi anytime soon because the Party will send him back to the pulpit come 2019.
