Independent Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Frank Mwenefumbo has trashed media reports that he is planning to join the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), saying the reports are untrue.

Mwenefumbo said this in parliament on Tuesday afternoon following a story published by one of the local daily papers indicating that the MP, former speaker Chimunthu Banda, former minister Ken Kandodo would be joining the DPP.

Standing on point of order in the National Assembly, Mwenefumbo said he is an independent MP and he has never thought of shifting to the ruling Party.

Mwenefumbo said if he says something in support of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Mutharika it does not mean he is planning to join the Party.

“Nyasatimes of today has reported that I am joining the Ruling DPP today. I just want to say no arrangement to that effect is in place neither have any of my constituents asked me to join The DPP.

“I further would like to request nyasatimes to ascertain with news that are affiliated to particular individuals before publishing them,” said Mwenefumbo.

Mutharika on Sunday welcomed former Opposition People’s Party (PP) spokesperson Ken Msonda and other top officials.
