Support staff at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has called of their strike aimed at pushing for a salary increase to meet the current economic situation which has seen goods on the market going up exorbitantly.
The strike was scheduled to start today in all public Universities including Chancellor College (CHANCO) in Zomba and Polytechnic in Blantyre.
The Support staffs were demanding a 30 percent increment.
The strike could have piled another pressure on President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who is a Chancellor of the University of Malawi because the strike could have led to the closure of the remaining colleges.
The strike also could have disrupted examination preparations among the students in the said colleges.
