Two Namata Primary School pupils and a woman are reported dead while 10 others have sustained serious injuries after a truck loaded with 600 bags of Maize lost control and plunged into a fence of the school in Bangwe, Blantyre.

Police in Blantyre have confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to an eyewitness who rushed to the scene said, the truck which belongs to Nabila transport of Lilongwe was descending along the newly upgraded Mpingwe-Namatapa Nthandizi road before it lost control as it approached the school.

He said the truck developed brake failure and the driver failed to control the vehicle and in the process hitting the fence of the school.

Police had to fire teargas to disperse people who took the advantage of the accident and steal maize and spare parts of the truck.

Meanwhile the driver of the truck has escaped.
